Open Call
Geiranger Light Art Festival
2027
Geiranger Light Art Festival invites artists, light designers, architects, creative communities and emerging talents to submit proposals for light artworks for the 2027 festival.
The festival will take place in Geiranger from February 12th till 21st 2027, during the darkest time of the year. We want to use the winter darkness, the fjord landscape and the distinctive village setting as a framework for artistic, architectural and sensory light experiences.
We are interested in both existing and new works. These may include light installations, video works, projections, mapping, interactive works or other forms of light-based art. The works may be large and visible from a distance, or smaller, quieter and more thought-provoking experiences. All proposals should have strong visual and artistic qualities, be technically and financially feasible, and fit well with Geiranger as a place.
The festival is mainly outdoors. It is therefore important that the works can withstand winter weather, cold, wind and precipitation, and that they can remain safe and secure throughout the entire festival period. We also ask applicants to consider sustainable solutions, including energy use, choice of materials and technical implementation.
What we are looking for
We will assess the proposals based on, among other things:
- artistic and visual quality
- how the work creates a strong experience for the audience
- the interaction between the work, the landscape, the village and the World Heritage area
- technical and practical feasibility
- robustness in winter weather conditions
- sustainable solutions
- budget and funding needs
- whether the work can help create good walking routes and experiences within the festival area
It is an advantage if the work has a clear connection to Geiranger, the fjord, the landscape, darkness, light, nature, cultural heritage or the people who live here.
The application should include
Please send us one complete proposal including:
- name of artist/group and contact information
- title of the work
- a short description of the work and the artistic idea
- an explanation of how the work can relate to Geiranger
- photos, sketches, visualisations or other documentation
- link to video or animation, if available
- description of size, format and function
- technical specifications, including power requirements, mounting, rigging and any necessary safety measures
- budget, including what kind of support you are applying for from the festival
- a short presentation of the artist/artist group, preferably with portfolio or references
The proposal must be realistic to carry out within the framework of the festival. If the work requires a specific location, please describe what kind of surroundings the work needs in order to function in the best possible way. The festival may assist with dialogue about placement, technical clarification and collaboration with relevant local partners.
Deadline and submission
The submission deadline is July 6th 2026. Applications will be evaluated continuously.
Send your proposal to: gunnaringe@verdsarvfjord.no
